![]() ![]() You see it more and more on the internet. As in: nobody with an IQ below 100 or maybe even higher gets to breed. ![]() I've run across more than one person recently who wouldn't be adverse to eugenics. And I know of no way, save a eugenics program, to birth more geniuses per capita! So is genius dead? No, just stretched very thin. From genome therapies, to cyber warfare, to atmospheric dynamics, to colonies on Mars, we have more complex topics soaking all the geniuses we have. And there are far more complex topics now that at any time in the past. Thinking Bell curve, there are only so many geniuses born who are capable of working on the most complex topics and/or producing the most fantastic art forms. To explain, I read a while ago that India is "out genius'ing the US" simply due to the birth rates. There are other modern composers that I like: Edison Denisov (he died but his music is lovely), Jennifer Higdon (she is still composing I think), John Tavener, Valentyn Sylvestrov.Īndrew Pohlman wrote: ↑ Monday 06 August 2018, 18:52 pmĪs I read through all this, and made earlier contributions, it hit me that, unless I missed it, we have not landed on the "dilution of genius". My other favorite is Takashi Yoshimatsy, he composed a lot for both solo guitar and symphony. Part has 32 orchestral works including 4 symphonies. Brouwer composed 11 guitar concertos and 16 other orchestral works. But the amount of symphonic works by Part and Brouwer is abundant, just check the wiki. Honestly, I'm not following the most recent symphonic music. no easy talent for those brought up on a steady diet of Acid Rock, Heavy Metal and mind-numbing monochord music and other assorted cacophonies. The reason is that to write Symphonic Music you must actually have talent and an intimate understanding of the range, tenor, and possibilities of each orchestral instrument. Who are the symphonic composers writing today? The lion share I've encountered was on par with Big Screen movie composers of the 50's and 60's- Ben-Hur, Gone With the Wind, and let's not forget the cowboy classics: Rio Grande, the Misfits, etc.which are fine for hotel elevators and padded psych cells but won't move a feather on my wings. ![]() I'm not familiar with Arvo Part, but Brouwer does not compose symphonic music. There are living composers today that I would qualify at genius level such as Arvo Part and Leo Brouwer." eno The amount of good classical music produced in 20th century is enormous. "I don't see any decline in music or in science or technology. Rognvald wrote: ↑ Sunday 05 August 2018, 13:44 pm ![]()
